Antique The Non-Sweating Adlake Lamp Chicago, New York State Canal Lamp Red I believe used on Erie Canal and is an oil lamp. Lantern came from moving sale home on Rt. 31 NY (NY RT 31 runs along the Erie Canal) and was in their boat house they had no information other then it was assumed a lamp from a barge or other boat on the Erie Canal. The folks did not even realize they had it. The size is measuring 18” tall and 23” including the handle which is fixed and is 12" diameter at the base, the Fresnel red lens is 8” diameter, and 7" tall with 6.5" displaying. The lantern lens has several small chips in the (fins) no cracks and is solid. Please see the photos. It has surface rust as seen in the photos. The first two photos are after it was wiped down with clear water the others are as I found it. The wick adjuster is intact, I unscrewed the wick and found no names there is a wick and the holder is brass. The housing has several layers of paint and some scratches and some small nuts some missing on the surrounding lens guard. There is a tag on the bottom that I can read only part of you can see it in the photos please check them. The tag has patent numbers and dates. I can make out Aug. 6, 1917, I believe and also, I see Sept. 24, 1912, and Jan. 21, 1913, and Dec. 2, 1913. Please see photos for condition details.
An amazing piece of history from one of the earliest transportation modes of this country! The lamp has not been restored, painted, touched or reconditioned it is original to the time period. It is also 20+ pounds! Shipping will be the most economical but safest and insured route and excess shipping charges are refunded ASAP. Wear is consistent with age. Sizes can be seen in the photos. Has not been cleaned to maintain vintage integrity. Is
