Description
For auction is a very nice, vintage serving bowl made by Harker Pottery. The border is called Royal Gadroon and the inside color is a warm gray known as Chesterton.
The backstamp says “
HARKER POTTERY
EAST LIVERPOOL, OHIO
”
around a square that says “
Harkerware
SINCE
1840”.
The diameter is 8-7/8 inches, the height is almost 2 ¾ inches, and the weight is 1 pound 2-1/8 ounces.
This lovely bowl is in good, used condition and does show some wear.
I see minor scratches and scuffs, and manufacturing flaws – a tiny dark spot inside, and the holder marks from firing on the back.
According to my research, the pottery was founded in 1840 in East Liverpool, Ohio but moved to Chester, West Virginia in 1931. It was sold in 1969 and then closed in 1972.
The Chesterton Gadroon line was made in the 40’s and 50’s.
I have some other bowls in this pattern / style.
