Nautical Deck Prism Light Pyramid Maritime Green Glass Paperweight

Beautiful green glass reproduction of original maritime prism. 4.25" tall, 4.75" wide, weighs over 3 lbs. Excellent condition, no cracks or chips.    Ship deck prisms date back to the mid-1800's as a solution to providing light below a ships deck. For many obvious reasons, oil lanterns and open flames were a great danger on wooden ships. Prisms such as these were installed flush with the deck with the prism exposed below deck. When sunlight hit the flat surface above, the prism provided the light for sailors working below deck.
