Vintage Brass Double Stack Light – USA MADE
This is an authentic brass double stack fresnel light, salvaged from a once working vessel. This brass light lamp was manufactured by Lovell in Arlington, NJ. The red Fresnel lenses are dark red and are in good condition, with a slight chip on one part of the lens (6th picture).
Red lights were used to indicate the left side (port side) of a vessel when traveling on the sea at night. It hasn’t been proven but folk stories have spread around that the term “posh” originated as an acronym P.O.S.H. (standing for “Port Out, Starboard Home) used by British Cruise-Liners when describing the cabin arrangements for their rich passengers who would pay extra to face the sunny (southern) side of the ship when crossing the Atlantic to and from America.
This double-stacked portside light is in good condition with is a small chip in the lens (pictured in #6). This light weighs 45 pounds and measures 22.25 inches tall. Additionally, this light is 9.25 inches in width, with a mounting width of 6.1”. There are 2 holes on the bottom and 2 at the top of this fixture to mount easily onto the surface of your choice.
